Jumpstart Your Fitness in Denver at These Outdoor Destinations
Throughout the Denver metro area, there are tons of great outdoor destinations that are perfect for physical exercise. From Sloan’s Lake to Wash Park and more, you’ve got plenty of options. But if you’re looking for a challenging workout, you’ll want to visit these locations with our fitness trainer.
1. Red Rocks State Park
Framed by ancient sandstone, Red Rocks State Park is one of the most beautiful places in the state of Colorado. At Red Rocks, you can enjoy amazing live music at night, but can also exercise during the day. The many weathered stairs are perfect pieces of exercise equipment, and many people use them for running, lunging, pushups, or even yoga.
2. Lookout Mountain Preserve in Golden
Just 30 minutes outside of Denver, the Lookout Mountain Preserve in Golden offers another challenging cardio experience. Bike or run up the winding road for an intense cardio session with a stunning view when you reach the top at 7,379 feet of elevation.
3. Platte River Trail, Denver
The Platte River trail runs through the entirety of Denver and is 25.8 miles long. The trail allows access to various hotspots of the metro area from Downtown to the Cherry Creek reservoir and more. It’s a great opportunity to set a personal challenge for yourself in terms of distance or time. You can run or bike down the path and even stop by some of the outdoor gyms on the way.
4. Manitou Springs Incline
The Manitou Springs Incline is an essential Colorado trail that every resident needs to experience. Take a short hour's drive down to the Manitou Springs (just outside of Colorado Springs) and try to get to the top of this hiking trail. The incline has just over 2,700 steps and the hike up is only one mile, but gains 2,000 feet in elevation.
5. White Ranch Park
As the largest park in Jefferson County’s open space system, White Ranch Park offers 20-plus miles of trails over both gentle and rough terrain. There are natural surface trails throughout the property except for two sensitive areas, including Ralston buttes, which can be reached only by permit.
Along with all these amazing outdoor spots to be active, there are many parks within Denver that feature great calisthenic opportunities.
What are Calisthenics?
Calisthenics is a type of exercise that revolves around using your own body weight as a form of resistance. These workouts include push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, squats, lunges, and more. Try this quick Whole Intent curated exercise while working on your calisthenics.
The great thing about calisthenics is you can do them without any equipment. This type of workout helps you get fit by building up muscles and improving coordination. There are many calisthenics areas in Denver parks that are free to use for the public.
Here are a few places that feature calisthenic equipment:
